As a lifelong resident of Brooklyn, I have been involved in activities which contribute to physical, mental and emotional well-being of our community since adolescence. My objectives of reaching out to those in need and providing access to programming, assistance and guidance have always aimed to achieve one goal – Tikkun Olam. It is my hope that my newest endeavor, The Star Foundation (b’ezrat Hashem) will follow in the path of success as well.

EDUCATION/SPECIAL NEEDS INITIATIVES:

CARE FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN
2013 a multi-level approach to assisting individuals and families dealing with ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disabilities through
Information & Referrals – for education, insurance and entitlements, Medicaid Waiver, CPSE, CSE
Guidance: establishing a community resource center with printed, audio/video literature covering the wide spectrum of diseases, disorders, syndromes and diagnoses along with treatment resources, information on modalities, programs, schools, etc.
Respite – Provide respite care for those parents and caregivers, allowing them to recoup and recover
emotional, physical and mental strength as they help their families navigate to receive needed services
Residence – for Individuals aging out of school-based care, providing an opportunity to live independently (with minimal supervision) instilling pride, sense of self-worth and accomplishment 

NON-PROFIT/COMMUNITY INITIATIVES:

CAREER SERVICES NETWORK (Division of Sephardic Bikur Holim)
Brooklyn, New York 1999-present

As President of the Career Services Network division, provide leadership, guidance and establish growth objectives to empower this small group of job developers and support staff to provide the ultimate level of tzedakah, enabling a fellow Jew to find gainful employment/parnassah.
Strengthen families, instill pride, encourage and motivate community members every day

FLATBUSH SHOMRIM SAFETY PATROL ( FSSP)
2014-Present

FFSP is a proactive volunteer Jewish civilian patrols which have been set up in the Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, (and in many other countries) to combat burglary, vandalism, mugging, assault, domestic violence, nuisance crimes, antisemitic attacks, and to help and support victims of crime. They also help locate missing people. As a community Activist concerned for the safety and wellbeing of the community, FSSP is on call 24/7 equipped with 2 way Radios and are able to respond and assist the NYPD . Since joining FSSP Michael has been involved over 40 arrests, and 15 Missings.

COMMUNITY SECURITY ALLIANCE (CSA)
2016-Present

CSA is a nonprofit formed to help ensure the safety and security of the Sephardic community’s institutions through a thorough, carefully designed and coordinated plan of actions and protocols.

SEPHARDIC ANGEL FUND, Past President
Brooklyn, New York 2006-2009

Assisted community members with career services referrals, business advice, guidance, Angel matching, linking them to Interest Free Loans.
Assembled and prepared documents in order to apply for Small Business Lender status from the Small Business Association.
Served first as a Vice President of SAF which enabled me to absorb, analyze and process the issues presented and then determine the best plan of action for all those involved; signor on behalf of SAF of the Edict Reaffirmation of 2006

SEPHARDIC BIKUR HOLIM

Board Member and Captain for Client Services

As a Captain, handled over 30 individual/family cases, providing access to networking, other agency/resource referrals and allocations assistance. Coach and mentor clients through traumatic, life-changing events, work conditions and assist them in obtaining goals

EDMOND J. SAFRA SYNAGOGUE OF BROOKLYN

Member of congregation under the leadership of Rabbi Eli Mansour; cultivate community contacts to assist in fundraising efforts for new synagogue building

Instructed class in Jewish Business Ethics, instilling those students pursuing post-high school goals of entering business with the tools to make halachically/ethically/morally correct business decisions
